Ivory Coast: Driving license: 97% of withdrawn points are for speeding
97% of point capital withdrawals under the “Driver License Point System” were due to speeding in Ivory Coast over the period of March 1 to May 30, 2023, Abidjan.net learned on Monday from an official source.
According to official statistics published by ”Quipux Afrique”, the operator of the Integrated Management Center (IMC) of the Ivorian Ministry of Transport, ”97% of point deductions are due to speeding of 20 to 25 km/H”.
In addition, the operator states that between March 1 and May 30 2023, 20 driving licenses were invalidated due to depleted balances, and 10,978 points were deducted from the 3,021 driving licenses concerned.
The point-based driving license system has been operating in Ivory Coast since March 1, 2023. According to the Ivorian authorities, this system consists of allocating a capital of 12 points to each driving license, which are automatically reduced if the holder commits an infraction.
This capital of points can be reconstituted after a recovery course at an approved center, or automatically after a two-year deferral period during which no infringements must be committed.
However, after a period of two years, infringers are required to take courses as new applicants for a driver’s license.
