Learn about the importance of electronic detection at a national level
Let us tell you more about the impact our Research Team generates in our portfolio of solutions and services.
Throughout our Aburrá Valley, we can witness how in the different municipalities that surround us, there is a trend towards intelligent mobility. This type of mobility seeks the connection between users, infrastructure and vehicles mediated by technology. It aims to reduce traffic congestion, reduce environmental pollution and improve road safety, and it is precisely the latter that has become a worldwide concern, due to the registration of more than 1.2 million deaths each year due to traffic accidents.
Our country is no stranger to this problem, since at the end of 2021, we closed the year with 7,270 deaths due to road accidents and in our city with 222, the highest figure in the country. For this reason, policies have been generated to regulate and control mobility in the territory to protect the rights of citizens, attend to accidents caused by traffic accidents, and exercise control and supervision based on the provisions of the National Traffic Code (CNT), which aims to regulate the circulation of pedestrians, users, passengers, drivers, motorcyclists, cyclists, traffic agents, and vehicles on public or private roads.
It is precisely the CNT who enabled the use of technological aids, such as video cameras and electronic equipment that allow the identification of the vehicle or drivers violating the different traffic regulations and thus, be able to collect evidence on the occurrence of traffic violations. Later, Law 1843 of 2017 and resolution 718 of 2018 reciting “Whereby the technical criteria for the installation and operation of technical or technological means for the detection of alleged traffic violations, are regulated and other provisions are issued”, gave rise to the Electronic Detection systems in Colombia.
This is where Quipux’s name appears. The company plays a fundamental role in this process and in the importance of Elctronic Detection systems in road safety issues, in addition to their important support to the city’s traffic and mobility authorities, with the selection of appropriate technologies to support the control of drivers.
It is important to emphasize that the work of Electronic Detection for road safety is carried out by the Research Department of our company, and it is them who have developed a standardized procedure to evaluate the performance of these various technologies available on the market, objectively determining the potential or outstanding points of each technology. There are already 5 suppliers of this technology worldwide that have been evaluated through this procedure.
This is a study that compares this type of technology, identifying its capacity for monitoring vehicular traffic and detecting possible traffic violations, which consists of three important and fundamental steps that the Research team discloses, which are:
- The ability to detect every vehicle passing through the monitoring point.
- The ability of technology to individualize vehicles.
- The capacity to detect traffic infractions and to be able to sanction according to their nature, which are, as we might already know: Pico y Placa, SOAT, RTM, high speed and red lights.
This is how this technology works objectively to identify its potential for the business and supports decision making in terms of traffic violations.
